Program 02, 12 modules

Assessment that holds up when somebody asks how you got there.

A deeper functional behaviour assessment pathway for practitioners building more advanced assessment capability, from defining what is happening through to converging evidence, functional hypotheses, formulation and recommendations.

Proficient Practice Series: Functional Behaviour Assessment

  • Twelve-module assessment deep dive
  • Designed around defensible functional reasoning
  • Proficient-level learning focus does not itself confer a capability level

Inside the course

What one module actually contains.

Twelve modules that follow a functional behaviour assessment from first referral to final report. Each one takes a stage of the work and shows what defensible reasoning looks like at that stage, what evidence supports it, and where assessments usually come apart.

The series is written for practitioners who already run assessments and want the reasoning to be tighter, better evidenced and easier to defend in review.

Twelve modules, 18 hours of taught material, and the same thirteen sections every time, from overview through to a competence evidence task marked against stated pass or fail criteria. Each module leaves you with an artefact, and the twelve together are a finished behaviour assessment report written on your own work rather than on a worked example.

Selecting Assessment Methods

CorePBS Training · Course 1: Functional Assessment, Proficient · Module 7 of 12

Scope note. This module is about choosing the right mix of methods and tools. Building the measurement system was Module 6. Actually gathering the biopsychosocial picture is Module 8, and gathering the behavioural data that reveals function is Module 9. Here the question is which methods, and why.

One of thirteen sections. The teaching, the worked example and the competence evidence task continue inside the course.

How it is marked

You pass by evidence, not attendance.

  • Knowledge check. Criterion referenced, pass mark 85 per cent, with critical items marked. A critical item failed is a fail regardless of the total.
  • Competence evidence task. Scored not yet evidenced, developing, or evidenced, against stated critical and supporting criteria. Every critical criterion must reach evidenced.
  • Remediation. A single critical criterion not evidenced routes to reteach, then resubmit. There is no pass by attendance.
The twelve

Every stage of an assessment.

Each module takes one stage of a functional behaviour assessment and runs the same thirteen sections through it, so the reasoning is built the same way every time. Each has the one before it as a prerequisite.
